Commencing Tuesday 5 November, running weekly at 6:30pm (AEDT) this peer-facilitated group discussion aims to help those candidates preparing to sit the NPE exam with three mentors, Clare, Jess and Amanda! This program offers candidates an opportunity to get prepared to sit the exam in a facilitated, yet interactive and collaborative group.
This program runs over 10 weeks. We have eight 1-hour weekly sessions discussing the domains, and 2 x 2 hour (total of four hours) of scenario discussion sessions with novel exam-style vignettes.
Participants will also be provided with access to the group’s recordings as well as a host of additional digital resources and all the available quizzes.
NOTE: Group will run on a Monday night instead of the normal Tuesday on Monday 23 December and Monday 30 December
NOTE: Group will commence at 7.30pm AEDT for week 4 and week 5 (assessment weeks)

Week 1: Introductory Session

Week 2: Ethics 1
A 1-hour session covering the following topics:
· Ethical requirements for psychologists
· Competence, confidentiality and informed consent
· Managing professional boundaries
· Multiple/dual relationships
· Boundary crossings and violations
· Power imbalances
· Non-exploitation of a client
· Non-consenting clients
Week 3: Ethics 2
A 1-hour session covering the following topics:
· Clients who cannot give consent
· Client diversity
· Competence within diverse groups
· Clients who pose a risk to themselves or others
· Ethical issues in research
· Ethics of assessment and intervention
· Privacy legislation, records, delegation, advertising and finances
Week 4 : Assessment 1
A 1-hour session covering the following topics:
Assessment
· Principles of assessment
· Test selection and usage
Week 5: Assessment 2
A 1-hour session covering the following topics:
· Identifying and diagnosing psychological disorder
Week 6: Scenario discussion session 1
· A 2-hour discussion session consisting of novel scenarios to be discussed as a group
· Participants are encouraged to bring their own ethical dilemmas or scenarios to discuss in the session
Week 7 & Week 8: Intervention 1 & 2
A 1-hour session covering the following topics:
· Counselling skills
· Theories and models of treatment
o cognitive and behavioural
o psychodynamic and interpersonal
o family systems, and
o humanistic, narrative and solution-focussed.
Week 9: Communication
A 1-hour session covering the following topics:
· Record keeping
· Knowledge of referral processes
· Knowledge of and sensitivity of communication issues relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and diverse groups
Week 10: Scenario discussion session 2
· A 2-hour discussion session consisting of novel scenarios to be discussed as a group
· Participants are encouraged to bring their own ethical dilemmas or scenarios to discuss in the session
Dates
Sessions will be held every Tuesday evening. Sessions will be held via Zoom and recordings are provided. Link will be emailed to you upon purchase or at least a few days prior to the event starting.
Time
Tuesdays 6:30PM, weekly (Syd/Melb time) - Note daylight saving time. See times above because do vary for a few sessions.
Not board-approved supervision.
Not an NPE coaching or a “course” . This is an organised group, peer lead, open discussion running through the exam curriculum and AHPRA materials and exam readings.
*Please note that the quiz difficulty of these questions may be considerable as low to medium. Performance has been found to vary from 70-85% as average. We are limited by character count in Kahoot! but look forward to developing more challenging questions soon
